Silla del Papa
A truely magical experience is a visit to the lofty heights of the Silla del Papa. Silence reigns. Familes of eagles soar above everything. Even the massive Telefonica telecommunications antenna fail to impress. The views are breathtaking. One can utterly understand why this spot was a chosen watchpoint.

Silla del Papa: A Historic Watchpoint
La Silla del PapaLocated at the top of the Sierra de la Plata mountain range, near to the Cueva del Moro. (One of 66 caves containing Soltrean Art.) Close by, is an ancient settlement that overlooked Bolonia bay, the Straits of Gibraltar and the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia. The settlement was relative to Phoenician defensive strategies and religious purposes. Some claim the Silla del Papa's Oppidum, as Roman - while others claim it to be Visigoth in origin - others will claim it was Carthaginian...
Archaeology of Human Continuity One must remember, what one civilization found useful: another civilization would - as well. It is likely, there are traces of "All Civilizations" in La Silla del Papa. The Oppidum site (beside the Telcommunications Antennas) peaks the Sierra de la Plata, with excellent views of the African coasts. Its locus spans Bolonia Bay;

the north-west range, Sierra de San Bartolome. This would have effectively controlled the entire Straits shipping routes. It was the next post after Carteia (Gibraltar). This was ideal for "the Masters of the Sea" the Phoenicians, as their prime watchpoint: The Silla del Papa.
